Schenectady mayor to hold hearing on veterans’ property tax exemption

The Oct. 15 hearing concerns a local law adopted by the City Council. Written comments are due that morning at 10 a.m.

Schenectady Mayor Gary R. McCarthy will hold a public hearing Thursday, Oct. 15, on Local Law 2026-1, which authorizes a full property tax exemption for certain veterans with 100% total service-connected disabilities, according to a city legal notice.

The hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Room 110 at Schenectady City Hall, 105 Jay Street. The Schenectady City Council adopted the law Sept. 28, 2026.

Interested parties may comment at the hearing or submit written comments to the City Clerk. Written comments must arrive by 10 a.m. Oct. 15 and may be emailed to smykoo@schenectadyny.gov or mailed to the City Clerk, 105 Jay Street, Schenectady, NY 12305.

Copies of the law are available at the City Clerk’s Office and on the city website, www.cityofschenectady.com. A livestream will be available through Open Stage Media at youtube.com.
