518News is an independent local-news platform focused on communities across New York’s 518 area code.
Our goal is straightforward: make useful local information easier to find, understand and share. Coverage includes local government, public safety, weather, traffic, community developments and other issues that affect people throughout the 518 region.
518News uses technology to help discover and process information from public and official sources. Automation may assist with research, classification, drafting and publication, but our editorial rules are designed to require human review when a story carries elevated risk, uncertainty or sensitivity.
Communities throughout the 518 region are treated equally in our editorial system. Story decisions are based on relevance, newsworthiness, public value and editorial risk rather than geographic preference.
