Schenectady County residents will have an opportunity to learn emergency planning and response skills at a free class Oct. 17, 2026, at the Hon. Karen B. Johnson Library in Schenectady.

The session runs from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the library’s McChesney Room, at 99 Clinton Street. The county said each family attending will receive one preparedness kit.

Space is limited. Registration details and additional information are available at dhses.ny.gov.

The county is organizing the NY Citizen Preparedness Training Program class with the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services. Instruction will cover preparations before a natural disaster or other emergency, actions during the event and recovery afterward.
